When the wind blows

The winds of change are not only blowing on our country, but also here in Keokuk County! Literally. Last night, Jan. 19, the wind was whipping travelers to and fro on the highways. As I turned at the old Pioneer plant to make my way home, a semi was in the ditch so far that it had hit a telephone pole. Alliant Energy was on the scene this morning as I passed by. Also on 149 was a red car with a black hood turned sideways in the ditch. According to the Keokuk County Sheriff, there were no less than 5 calls of people in the ditch.

I was fortunate not to be a victim of the strong winds. There was no precipitation to speak of; however, the leftover snow decided to take a run for the roads, which made them very slick in spots.

As old man winter drags on, we must be very vigilant when it comes to winter weather. If you are planning to take a trip (or even just go home) make sure that you check the weather. You can also go to the Iowa DOT website and look up “Road Conditions 511.”
