Sigourney-Keota Boys and Girls Compete At Ottumwa Invitational 

On Saturday, January 6 both the Sigourney-Keota boys and girls wrestling teams traveled to Ottumwa to compete in an invitational tournament that had numerous teams compete from around the area. 

The girls finished sixth out of ten teams with 37 points. 

Leading the way was Reanah Utterback finishing in first place of the 115 pound division. Utterback earned three victories on her way to first place, each via pin. 

Her teammates Sadie Clarahan and Jolie Wehr both finished in sixth place of their respective weight classes. 

On the boys side, the team finished 18th out of 21 teams with 160 points. 

Jake Moore continued his strong season finishing third in the 165 pounds division meanwhile Brady Clark placed fifth in the 138 pound tournament. 

English Valleys/Tri-County Boys Compete In A Triangle Meet

On Thursday, January 4 the EV/TC boys competed in a triangular meet and despite their best efforts fell to both Baxter and Belle Plaine. 

Against Baxter they almost came away with a victory, falling 36-33. 

Keegan Walker picked up a victory by pin at 144 pounds while teammates Teagan Mast earned a 9-2 decision in the 165 pound match. 

Against Belle Plaine, EV/TC fell 48-24. Earning victories for EV/TC were Drew Fisher (126 pounds), Luke Moore (215) pounds and Cael Grove (106 pounds). Each victory came by pin. 

Two days later the EV/TC boys competed in the Gary Curtis Invitational and placed 15th out of 18 teams. 

Luke Moore placed fourth in the 215 pound tournament. 

Pekin Competes In North Mahaska Invite

On Saturday, January 6 the Pekin Panthers traveled to New Sharon to compete in the North Mahaska Invite. 

In total there were 13 teams and Pekin finished 13th with 20.5 points. 

Highlighting the day for the Panthers was Reed Lauderman who returned home with a third placed finish in the 106 pound tournament. 

EV/TC and Pekin Girls Take Part in the Highland Girls Tournament

The Pekin girls wrestling team placed 12th at the Highland Girls Tournament with 59 points on Saturday, January 6. Their counterparts from EV/TC came away with a 15th place finish with 32 points. 

Lila Miller of Pekin, came away with a second place finish in the 140 pound tournament. Miller earned two victories by pin on her way to second place. 

Her teammate Lexa Nelson finished in the fifth place of the 105 pound tournament. 

As for EV/TC, Taylie Brecht placed fifth in the 125 pound tournament.
