Sieren sounds the scoring siren five times against Cardinal

Nov. 1, 2010. The date might not seem like much to the general public, but for Sigourney-Keota Cobra fans, both near and far from Cobra Field, they know that is the last time the Cobras won a playoff game, beating Camanche 48-22.

 

This playoff “losing” streak was broken last Friday, Oct. 23, when Sigourney-Keota shut out Cardinal 49-0 in the Second Round.

 

“The last time we made a solid trip anywhere, I was 1 1⁄2 years old,” Brady Duwa said.

 

The first quarter started slow, a missed field goal appeared to be the only scoring for the quarter until Sam Sieren had a 32 yard rush with 1:02 remaining to put the Cobras up 7-0. Cardinal returned the ensuing kickoff to their own 32, but they would punt it away and Sieren would score again with 8:44 left in the second quarter to go up 14-0.

 

The Comets had their next drive stalled after a mishandled snap by Maddux Jones which led to a muffed punt by the Cobras that Brady Duwa returned to the Comet 13. Duwa would then score from the Cardinal 5 with 5:11 left in the second quarter.

 

The fourth touchdown on the night, and third of the second quarter, was thanks to a blocked punt which allowed Sigourney-Keota to start on the Comet 12. Sieren made quick work and scored to put the Cobras up 28-0. The ensuing Comet drive also

saw a punt get blocked, with this one being recovered on Cardinal’s 2. Sieren scored and the score would be 35-0 at half.

 

Levi Crawford returned the second half kick to the Cobra 48, and later on the drive Sieren would score his fifth touchdown of the night with 8:15 in the third

quarter. Cade Molyneux would be the final Cobra to score, running from ten yards out to go up 49-0 with 6:06 left in the game.

 

“I hope we can take it the distance,” Duwa said.
