Jonnine McKay, 73, of What Cheer, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021 at the Serenity House Hospice in Oskaloosa. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in the Sixteen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family. Friends may offer condolences to the family at www.hollandcoblefuneralhomes.com
Jonnine Kay McKay was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on April 14, 1948 the daughter of Johnny and Betty Deucore Jones. At age fourteen she lost both parents and was raised by her aunt, Ruth Patton. Jonnine was a 1965 graduate of New Sharon High School. On March 3, 1974 she was united in marriage to Dennis Glenn McKay in Nevada, Iowa. She enjoyed reading cook books and making new and different meals for her family. Jonnine also loved to fish, watching her soap operas’ and reading a good book. Above all she took the most pride in be a good mother to her two sons, attending all their events and loving them unconditionally. Jonnine was diagnosed with Huntington-Chorea Disease. Shortly after her fiftieth birthday she moved to a nursing home due to the fact her condition required 24-hour skilled nursing care.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dennis McKay; her aunt, Ruth Patton; a brother, Emery Jones; a sister, Diane Muller; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Susie McKay; two nephews, Johnny Jones and Kevin Van Polen; and a niece, Jennifer McKay.
Jonnine is survived by two sons, Derrick (Marcy) McKay and Jason (Lisa) McKay, two sisters-in-law, LeAnn (Bob) Van Polen and Joyce (Jerry) Allen; four grandchildren, Emily Gott, Caden McKay, Madison McKay and Cole McKay; one great-grandson, Wyatt Gott; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a special friend and long-term care provider Renee Davis.
