Arthurine Thomas, 92, of What Cheer, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, at the Manor House in Sigourney. Funeral services began at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer. Burial was held in the Rice Cemetery. Visitation was held on Friday, Jan. 28, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the What Cheer Baptist Church, the What Cheer Fire and Rescue, or the Ed Thomas Family Foundation. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of What Cheer is in charge of the arrangements.
Arthurine Theresa (Whyle) Thomas, 92, of What Cheer went to be with the Lord surrounded by her loving family Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022 at the Manor House in Sigourney.
Arthurine was born Jan. 29, 1929 in What Cheer the daughter of Arthur and Nellie (Lake) Whyle. As a young girl she loved working with her dad in the Whyle Bakery. She graduated from What Cheer High School in 1946. She attended Drake University and William Penn College where she earned her teaching degree.
Arthurine married Roy E.Thomas on Dec. 4, 1949 in the What Cheer Christian Church. She taught first grade for a short time in Gibson and Thornburg, Iowa. Her faith and raising her five children were her passions in life. The majority of her life was spent as a homemaker. She enjoyed reading the Bible, daily devotionals and listening to hymns. Arthurine loved to cook, bake, clean house, and visit with everyone. She always looked forward to the next big family gathering. She grew up attending the What Cheer Christian Church and later became a member of the What Cheer Baptist Church where she faithfully attended.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; a son, Edward and her beloved sister, Nellie Marie Tinsley.
Arthurine is survived by three daughters: Susan (Del) Reynolds of Hamilton, Mont.; Connie (Dave) Flaherty of Murray; Teresa (Bill) Morrison of Keswick; a son, Greg (Michelle) Thomas of Humboldt, a daughter-in-law, Jan Thomas of Parkersburg, 11 grandchildren: Aaron (Ellie) Thomas, Todd (Candice) Thomas, John (Danyel) Willhour, Annie (Lindsey) Beinhart, Angela (Wes) Snakenberg, Brian (Sarah) Flaherty, Brent (Lauren) Flaherty, Luke (Madison Denny) Morrison, Nathan (Rachel) Morrison, Madison Thomas, Drew (Abby Zaugg) Thomas, and 18 great-grandchildren.
