Terry Burger

Terry Burger, 74, of What Cheer, died Friday, March 25, 2022 at Windsor Place Manor in Sigourney. A funeral service will begin at 11 am on Wednesday, March 30 at the What Cheer United Methodist Church. An Emergency Personnel memorial parade will follow the service. Burial will be held privately in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family.

 Terry Kinnaird Burger was born February 20, 1948 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, the son of William and Ruby Smith Burger.  He was a 1966 graduate of Sigourney High School where he was a four-sport athlete, in which he still holds a record in the distance medley.  On March 29, 1969 he was married to Dorothy Jane Baylor.  To this union, came one son Tom Burger.  Terry was later united in marriage on December 11, 2004 to Sharilyn Lundy.  Terry was a dedicated volunteer to his community.  He served as a fifty-year member of the What Cheer Fire Department from 1969 to 2019.  He was instrumental in starting the What Cheer EMS and later served as Fire Chief for What Cheer Fire and Rescue.  Terry also volunteered as a baseball coach, served on city council and the Keokuk County Fair Board.  He was always eager to serve in whatever capacity for many other organizations throughout the years.  His work history included over twenty years at the First State Bank and Iowa Trust and Savings, then from 1995 to 2011 he served as a dispatcher/jailer at the Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office.  He also worked several years as a security guard at William Penn College in Oskaloosa.

He is preceded in death by his parents; an uncle, Fred Burger; and a grandson, Colton Lundy. 

Terry leaves behind a wife, Shari Burger; a son, Tom (Jess) Burger; two stepsons, Chris (Julie) Lundy and Patrick Lundy; also, six grandchildren:  Kelby Burger, Cooper Burger, Kristen (Cody) Foster, Michaela Lundy, Tanner Lundy, and Noah Lundy; and a loyal friend, Jacks.
