1932-2022

Margaret (Peggy) Helen Yates, 89, died April 2, 2022 at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney. She was born November 19, 1932 to Martin and Helen Andies McDonald in Parnell, Iowa. She graduated from Parnell High School and received her AA from Ottumwa Heights, her BA from William Penn College and her Masters of Education from the University of Iowa. On July 26, 1956 she married Donald Arden Yates in Parnell, Iowa.  Peggy taught for over 40 years at Sigourney Elementary and after retirement she was a substitute teacher for over 20 years. Peggy taught First Communion Class for 35 years at St. Mary Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. She was a member of St, Mary Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society, Red Hats Society, Delta Kappa Gamma and retired teachers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don on March 26, 2018, two brothers Frank and Lawrence McDonald.

 She is survived by her children Jeff (Trina) Yates of Amana, Jill (David) McElligott of Iowa City,  Joel (Linda) Yates of Sigourney, five grandchildren Erin McElligott, Bailey McElligott, Addison Yates, Ellie Yates, and Solon Yates, sister Rita Driscoll and sister-in- law Pauline McDonald.

Funeral: Friday 10:30 a.m. St. Mary Catholic Church

Prayer Service Thursday 4 p.m. with visitation following until 7 p.m. at the Holm Funeral Home
