Keota Boys Take Care of Business At Sigourney
SIGOURNEY—On January 21, the Sigourney Savages hosted the Keota Eagles for a South Iowa Cedar league-East matchup. The Eagles defeated the Savages by a final score of 67-55.
The game began with Keota etching out a 19-14 lead after a quarter of play. The Eagles pushed their lead to 30-22 by the conclusion of the first half. The Eagles went on to out-score the Savages 37-33 en route to a 67-55 victory over the Savages.
The Eagles had four players hit double digits on the night. Junior Evan Vittetoe finished the night with 22 points. Junior Cole Kindred was the second leading scorer, as he finished the night with 15 points. Sawyer Stout ended the night with 14 points, while Bille Kindred amassed 10 points. Billie Kindred also led the team with rebounds on the night, as he secured 13 rebounds.
Freshman Solon Yates led the Savages in scoring, as he finished the night with 13 points. Karson Weber and Issac Bruns were the second leading scorers with 10 apiece. Senior Cole Clarahan was the main paint presence as he amassed nine rebounds.
Keota head coach Dan Stout encapsulated the game with, “I thought our offensive rebounding was a huge advantage for us.” The Eagles finished the night with 18 offensive rebounds.
Coach Stout spoke on the big night from junior Evan Vittetoe with, “Evan played great for us down inside.
He went on to speak on the overall performance from the team with, “One other big stat from us was we turned the ball over seven times.” Lastly, Coach Stout emphasized, “I thought our man to man defense was pretty good. Overall, it's always nice to get a road win in our conference.”
Sigourney head coach Mitch Eslick recapped the game with, “I thought we did a lot of good things last night. The kids played very hard and never gave up. Just never could get over the hump and get it closer than about 7-8 in the 2nd half. We really got hurt on the offensive rebounds and that's something we need to clean up. On a positive note we really did a good job of taking care of the ball and giving ourselves a chance offensively. Solon Yates had a really good game leading us with 13, Issac Bruns had 10.”
The Eagles advance to 14-3 on the season, with a conference record of 11-2. They will return to action on January 24, when they visit the Iowa Valley Tigers.
The Savages fall to 8-9 on the season, with a conference of 6-7. They will return to action on January 23, when they visit the Highland Huskies.
