Howard Sieren, 95, of Ottumwa died at 5:15 a.m. January 15, 2023 at Serenity Hospice House in Oskaloosa, IA.

He was born August 18, 1927 in Sigourney to Nick and Clara Mersch Sieren. He married Burnita Beinhart on November 18, 1950 and she preceded him in death on July 15, 2011.

After serving in the U.S. Army, during the Korean Conflict, Howard farmed southeast of Fremont for over 70 years. He attended St. Patrick Catholic Church and St. Mary of the Visitation in Ottumwa. Howard was a member of Arendt-Bowlin-Stubbs Post #83 American Legion in Hedrick.

Surviving are his children, Jackie (Greg) Perkins of Fremont, Randy (Susan) Sieren of Fremont, Janice (Mark) Sullivan of Oskaloosa, Cathy Sieren (William Appel) of Ottumwa and Tim (Barbara) Sieren of Ottumwa; 7 grandchildren, Alicia (Don) Stephenson, Elizabeth (Jed) Roe, Andrew (Jessica) Sieren, Kelli (Denny) Meyrand, Dana Sullivan (Rob Lines), Kelsey (Joe) Warren and Brandon Sieren (Sasha Conger); 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Fremont (Marilyn) Sieren of Sigourney.

He was preceded in death by siblings, Evelyn Weber, Luanna Weber, Forrest Sieren, Harvey Sieren, Rosella Bayliss, LeRoy “Bill” Sieren, Luvina Bayliss, Isabelle Beinhart and Clarence Sieren.

Funeral Mass was held January 18 th at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery with military honors conducted by Arendt-Bowlin-Stubbs American Legion Post #83.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Serenity House Hospice or Arendt-Bowlin-Stubbs American Legion Post #83.
