History Made by S-K Bowlers at the State Level

SIGOURNEY – The SOLD-OUT Iowa state championship for both boys and girls high school Class 1-A bowling were held on Tuesday, February 21 at Maple Lanes in Waterloo.

For the first time the Sigourney-Keota varsity bowling team had two bowlers qualify for state during the sub-state tournament in Pella the week of February 13th.

S-K sophomore Jayden Montgomery, who has been bowling for only two years, was the first ever female S-K bowler to qualify for the state tournament. Montgomery rolled a 186, 178, and a 169 for a series score of 533, which tied her for 18th in the field of 32 state bowlers. Kali Johnson of Forest City placed first with a 636 series.

Landyn Greiner, another S-K sophomore, also made his first appearance at the state meet in the field of 32 male bowlers. Greiner bowled a 185, 199, and 206 for a 590 series, finishing in 19th place. The boys’ 1-A first place position was claimed by Adam Denny of St. Albert, Council Bluffs with a 769 series.

In Iowa Class 1-A there are 51 high school boys’ bowling teams and 50 girls’ high school teams from across the state. Over a thousand boys and girls make up the teams competing in Class 1-A alone.

Just two days before the state championship meet S-K bowler Brock Alderson was recognized when he was named to the IGCA and Iowa High School Bowling Coaches Association 2023 Bowling All District First Team to which only six bowlers are named annually.
