1935 - 2023

Mary Martha Holt, 87, of Sigourney, died Friday, February 5, 2023 in Sigourney, Iowa surrounded by her family. She was born December 24, 1935 to Daniel Edward and Delphina Brady Devine in Sigourney. She graduated from Webster High School in 1953. She attended Marycrest College and she graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in education. She received her Masters from Marycrest College. On June 29, 1957 she married Jerry Holt at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney. Martha taught at North English and Sigourney for 35 years, teaching Junior High English. 

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society and the retired teachers association. Martha enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry May 10, 2013 and grandson Ryan Holt.

She is survived by her children Stephen (Carol) Holt of Sarasota, Florida, Catherine (Tim) Hermsen of Overland Park, Kansas, Timothy (Lisa) Holt of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Christopher Holt (Emory Bevill) of Lewes, Delaware, Brian (Anne) Holt of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Matthew (Kelly)  Holt of Kirksville, Missouri, thirteen grandchildren Alex, Caitlin, John, Joe, Annie, Brenna, David, Meghan, Ashley, Caroline, Joey, Nathan and Gabe, nine great grandchildren, sister Margaret  (George) House of Sigourney and brother Dr. Dan Devine of Clinton.

Arrangements Holm Funeral Home.  

Memorial Mass 11 a.m. Saturday February 11, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney.  

Visitation One hour before service time.
