Phillips and Clarahan Selected for YAM Awards
Youth Art Month is celebrated every year during the month of March. Only 100 hundred works of art are selected each year to be displayed at the Jordan Creek Mall. Different art media was used for the entries such as photography, watercolor, construction paper, colored pencils, acrylic paint, oil pastels tempera, charcoal, pencil, markers, sharpies, digital photography and mixed media.
Brinley Phillips and Carley Clarahan,8th graders at Pekin Junior Senior High School, were selected to represent Pekin and the Great Prairie AEA. Both students joined Angela Lyle’s photography class that is held twice a month during the dens class period. She encouraged the girls to enter and even named their photography exhibits. Matt Guise, Art Teacher at Pekin was listed on their certificates.
Clarahan had two exhibits selected. Both were in the photography media. One titled, The Wheel is a photo of a ferris wheel. Her other photo called Drifting is of a feather laying on some grass.
Phillips’ photography exhibit was a photo of a running path with stairs called The Stairway.
Certificates for participation were awarded to each student this past weekend at the Jordan Creek Mall in Des Moines. All three pieces of artwork and their certificates will be on display in the trophy case at Pekin near the Junior High wing.
