Allen Richard Wagler
Kalona- Allen Richard Wagler was born December 3, 1928, in Trenton, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Josephine (Isch) Wagler. He attended Trenton school. Allen was united in marriage to Lucille Conrad on December 20, 1953 at Bethel Mennonite Church in Wayland, Iowa. He lived in Trenton, IA, Swedesburg, IA, Marcus, IA and Sigourney, IA before moving to Kalona in 2014. Allen owned and operated Ford -Mercury Dealerships for 32 years, retiring in 1991. Allen died on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Pleasantview Home in Kalona, at the age of 94 years.
Allen was a faithful member at Wellman Mennonite Church. He accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church in his youth. Allen enjoyed traveling, gospel songs and writing poems. He served as a volunteer at Crowded Closet and the Kalona Historical Village. Allen loved the Old Threshers reunion and had been involved with it since its beginning. He also had a love for cars and was able to fix anything.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy; five children, Judy (Calvin) Yoder of Kalona, Connie (Mark) Hotchkiss of Wayland, Michael (Rachel) Wagler of Naples, FL, Steven (Cally) Wagler of Kansas City, KS and David (Shanell) Wagler of Panora, IA; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Harold Wagler of Kalona and Ed Wagler of Wayland. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Vada Reimer; and two brothers, Willis and Delmar Wagler.
A Celebration of Life Service was held 10:30 am Monday, May 22, at Wellman Mennonite Church in Wellman. A private family burial was held prior to the service at the Wellman Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation was from 3:00-6:00 pm Sunday, May 21, at Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. A Memorial Fund has been established for Crooked Creek Christian Camp and Pleasant View Nursing Home.
