Sigourney Baseball Down North Mahaska Behind Caden Clarahan
SIGOURNEY—The Sigourney Savages hosted the North Mahaska Warhawks on June 14 for a conference matchup. The Savages handled the Warhawks by a final score of 9-2.
The Savages started the game with 5 runs in the first two innings. They added two in both the fifth and sixth innings en route to the 9-2 victory.
The Savage offense was led by Caden Clarahan and Ty Shafranek, who both tallied two RBIs on the day. Jake Moore, Max Phillips and Chase Clarahan also secured an RBI for the Savages.
Caden Clarahan got the start from the bump, and finished his day with six and one thirds innings pitched, one earned run on three hits and 11 strikeouts.
Clarahan currently has the third most strikeouts in Class 1A with 62 batters waved. Clarahan spoke on the success he has had from the bump with, “It feels really good. I’ve been working really hard, especially in the offseason. Feels really good.”
Clarahan also is top five in batting average, home runs and total bases in the SICL conference. He spoke on what he’s been doing at the plate with, “I went into a slump a little bit there. I tried working on my swing. Cutting it down, and not trying to kill the ball every at bat.”
Clarahan transferred from Keota to Sigourney this past year, and spoke on the transition so far with, “It’s been really good. I’ve known a lot of kids over here for a long time. Played football with them and wrestled with them, so it’s been really good.”
The Savages push to 10-5 on the season, and will return to action on June 16, when they visit the Iowa Valley Tigers.
