Little Lifts Tri-County Over English Valleys in Second Round
NORTH ENGLISH—The English Valleys Bears hosted the Tri-County Trojans on June 5 for the second round of the Class 1A-Region 8 bracket. The Trojans upset the Bears by a final score of 5-3.
The Trojans struck first when Delanie Little rocketed a double into left field that brought home Ayla Hall from second base. Little was not done with hitting runners in, as she rocketed a two run home run in the bottom of the third to cap off a three run inning for the Trojans. The Bears found themselves down four heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. Kennedy Axmear then knocked in three runners by herself in the next two innings with a single and a home run. The Trojans added one more in the top of the seventh en route to the 5-3 victory.
Delanie Little led the Trojans with three RBIs tallied on the day. Raegan Molyneux and Macy Schmidt also secured an RBI for the Trojans. Little got the start for the Trojans, and finished her day with seven innings pitched, two earned runs on six hits and six strikeouts.
Kennedy Axmear logged all three of the RBIs the Bears had on the day. Axmear also got the start from the bump, and finished her day with seven innings pitched, four earned runs on eight hits and three strikeouts.
The Trojans advance to the third round of the Class 1A-Region 8 bracket, where they will visit the Twin Cedars Sabers on June 7. The Trojans will look to advance to the regional final for a shot to play their way to Fort Dodge.
The English Valleys Bears wrap up their season with a final record of 16-7.
