Mary Gwendolyn Batenhorst, 95, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Lutheran Living Senior Campus.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023, at Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Susan Bantz will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2 until 4 on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Lutheran Living. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.
Gwen was born on February 23, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, the daughter of Frederick and Eleanor MacDonald Orshek. She married Robert A. Batenhorst on June 12, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on December 4, 2012.
Gwen enjoyed cross-stitching, crafts, sewing, bingo, and puzzles. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband.
Gwen is survived by her children, Kathy Bates (Tom), Bob Batenhorst (Susan), Mike Batenhorst (Beth), and Tom Batenhorst (Terry); 9 grandchildren, Amy Halleran (Bill), Shannon Losee (Dennis), Ali Coyne (Ben), Emily Johannsen (Jeremy), Justine Schultz (Zach), Lindsey Batenhorst (Devin Deal), Mary Rogers (Bobby), Kiley Batenhorst, and Caleb Bourn; 13 great grandchildren, Tanner and Brock Halleran, Mallory and Jaxon Losee, Blakely and Cecily Coyne, Charlotte and Lucas Johannsen, Sophia, Solomon, and Samson Schultz, and Kyle and Wesley Rogers.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; son, Mark, on October 6, 2007; parents; and daughter-in-law, Jodi.
