James Philip Moore, 88
James Philip Moore, 88, died December 12, 2023 at the Keokuk County Hospital in Sigourney surrounded by his family. He was born October 27, 1935 to James Gale and Leona Moore. He graduated from Tri-County High School in 1954. James was united in marriage to Barbara (Galbraith) Moore on September 5, 1970. James was stationed in Oklahoma in the National Guard. James farmed for many years and also worked as a carpenter and steel fabricator.
Known to many as Picker, James was the founding member of the legendary Rock’N Flames band in 1957 and played venues throughout Iowa and the midwest. James and the Rock’N Flames band were inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. James also founded the JRJ and the Sundown III bands. James kept playing with the Rock’N Flames in recent years until he hung up his guitar in 2021 at the age of 86. More recently, he loved to spend time with his family, attending many of his grandchildren's activities.
He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara and parents James Gale and Leona Moore.
He is survived by his sons Craig (Kim) Moore of Sigourney, Chad Moore of Brooklyn, Cass Moore of What Cheer, grandchildren James Moore, Josephine Moore, Natalie Moore, Abigail Moore and Charlotte Moore, his brothers Sid (Kathy) Moore of South English, Roger (Becky) Moore of Oskaloosa, Dennis (Janice) Moore of Keswick, his sister Karen Butcher of Burlington, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
There will be a grave side service for immediate family with a celebration of life gathering for friends and family for James and Barbara is being planned for a later date.
