Upgrades Coming For Sigourney Batting Cages

SIGOURNEY – During the March 20 meeting of the Sigourney City Council, Councilman Adam Clark informed the council that the Ball Board plans to replace the batting cages at the ball fields next to Legion Park. Currently, the batting cages feature nets, which need to be taken down during the winter and replaced every few years due to damage and vandalism. The ball board plans to put up a 10-foot tall, 14-foot wide and 75-foot long chain link fence batting cage, built over a concrete foundation. It will cost the ball board $20,000 to build. The batting cage will feature a wall splitting it into a baseball section and a softball section. Clark explained that William Penn University has offered to donate turf and that Renner Construction has offered to volunteer to install the foundation. The ball board also plans to replace the current broken water fountain with a bottle refilling station. The council approved giving the ball board the go-ahead to upgrade the batting cages and spending $6,000 on concrete for the cages.
