2024 Savage Relays

SIGOURNEY—On April 23, the Sigourney Savages hosted the 2024 Savages Relays with girls and boys track teams from schools including Keota, English Valleys and Pekin.

For the boys, the Panthers finished in fourth place with an aggregate score of 62.5. The Bears placed sixth with a score of 56. The Savages secured 10th with 29.5 points, while Keota was right behind in 11th with 25 points.

For the girls, Pekin finished first with an aggregate score of 88, while HLV was right behind with a score of 79. English Valleys placed ninth with 28, and Sigourney finished in 12th with a score of 22. Lastly, the Keota Eagles scored 10 points for a 13th place finish.

For the Savage boys, Troy Klett shined with a fifth place finish in the 3200, while also placing sixth in the 1600.

In the 400 meter dash, Wyatt Wehr placed fifth with a time of 1:00.11.

In the shot put event, Caden Clarahan finished in fourth with a longest throw recorded at 41-03.00. Clarahan also secured a third place finish in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.15. 

Jayden Thompson ended his day with a sixth place finish in the shot-put event, while also securing fourth in the discus event.

Lastly for the Sigourney boys’ team, their shuttle hurdle team finished in fourth with a final time of 1:11.28.

For the Sigourney girls, Gwen Gatton placed third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:10.41.

In the 100 meter dash, senior Amiya Smallwood placed ninth with a final time of 13.94.

Kia Montgomery dashed her way to an eight place finish with a time of 29.50.

In the 3000 meter run, Addison Yates earned a third place finish with a time of 12:20.80. Yates also secured seventh place in the 1500 meter run.

For the relay events, the Savages secured fourth in the 4x400 and the 4x800, while also placing fifth in the 4x200.

For the Keota Eagles boys, Ayden Galindo shined with a second place finish in the high jump, while also recording a sixth place finish in the long jump.

In the 100 meter hurdles, Jacob Libe secured an eighth place finish with a time of 18.21.

For the Keota girls, Olivia Lyle landed a fourth place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.54.

In the long jump, Izzi Chalupa placed fifth with a longest jump recorded at 14-03, while also finishing 11th in the 100 meter dash.

For relay races, the Eagles secured fourth in the sprint medley with a time of 2:06.10.

For the English Valleys Bears boys, Gage Heyne swept the distance events with first place finishes in the mile and two mile runs. Heyne also earned a third place finish in the 800 meter dash with a time of 2:03.87. 

Myles Grove also earned a sixth place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 2:09.87.

In the 400 meter dash, Jack Osborn took home the silver medal with a time of 56.26, while Jonthanyn Downing earned the bronze with a time of 56.27.

For team events for the boys, the Bears secured second place in the distance medley with a time of 3:50.84.

For the English Valleys girls, Kennedy Axmear placed second in the shot-put and discus events. Taylor Mikesell also finished in third place in both events.

For the Pekin boys, Brady McWhirter placed third in the 1600, while also placing fifth in the 800 meter run.

In the 3200 meter run, Conor Cloyd placed second with a time of 10:17.45.

JaeDon Wolver secured second place in the 400 meter hurdles with a final time of 56.81.

In the long jump, Will Adam’s jump of 20-00.00 was good enough to secure second place for the Pekin junior.

For the boys’ relay events, the Panthers secured first in the shuttle hurdles and second place in the 4x800.

For the Pekin girls, Anna Hadley took home the gold in both the discus and shot-put events. 

Kayse Miller also secured a first place finish in the high jump with a highest jump recorded at 5-02.

In the 1500 run, Chloe Glosser finished in 5:09.94 for a second place finish.

In the long jump, Paislee Coleman leaped to a fourth place finish with a longest jump recorded at 14-05.

For the team relays, the Panthers secured first in the 4x800, while taking home second place in the distance medley.

The Panthers also finished in third place in the 4x200, the 4x400 and the shuttle hurdle. 

The HLV girls were led by some Tri-County stars with Aaliyah Cooper taking home the gold in the 400 meter dash and the 400 meter hurdles. Ayal Hall was right behind Cooper in the 400 meter dash, as she secured second place. 

Lily Randall ran her heart out for a second place finish in the 100 meter dash and the long jump. 

In the 800 meter run, Emery Hall hauled for a second place finish in a time of 2:29.97.

Lastly for the Trojans on the HLV team, Aubrey Zittergruen placed sixth in the discus event with a longest throw recorded at 94-03.

The Savages, Eagles, Bears and Warriors will return to action on April 30 for the SICL Conference Meet at Iowa Valley.

The Pekin Panthers will return to action on May 2, when they head to WACO high school for the SEISC Conference Meet.
