Pekin Girls Win SEISC Conference Title

WAYLAND—On May 2, the Pekin Panthers visited the WACO Warriors for the 2024 SEISC Meet. The Pekin girls secured a conference title with a final score of 165, while the Pekin boys placed second with an aggregate score of 305.

For the girls, 2023 state qualifier Chloe Glosser completed the triple crown with first place finishes in the 800, the 1500 and the 3000.

Lauren Steigleder also secured a fourth place finish in the 3000 meter run.

In the 400 meter dash, Alex Parson placed fourth with Lexi Swearingen right behind her with a fifth place finish.

In the 100 meter hurdles, Reece Brisby bolted to a second place finish with a time of 17.83.

Brinley Phillips placed fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a final time of 1:22.95.

For the field events, Kayse Miller secured a second place finish in the high jump, the event she qualified for the 2023 State Meet with. Reece Brisby also earned third place in the event.

Anna Hadley swept both the shot-put and discus events with gold medals in both events.

For the relays, the Panthers took home the gold in the 4x800 and the 1600. They also secured second places in the 4x400 and the shuttle hurdle relay, while placing third in the 800 medley relay.

The Panther boys were once again led by 2023 state qualifier Brady McWhirter, as he took home the gold in the mile and two miles run. McWhirter also finished in second place in the 800 meter run.

Sophomore Cole Milikin was right behind McWhirter in the 1600 meter run, as he finished in second place.

JaeDon Wolver wrapped up his day with a second place finish in the 400 meter hurdles, while also finishing tied for second in the high jump event. 

Lastly for the individual events, Caden Bender placed second in the shot-put event with a longest throw recorded at 41-02.25.

For the boy’s relay events, the Panthers took home the gold in four events: the shuttle hurdle relay, the 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800. They also secured second place in the distance relay and a third place finish in the sprint medley relay.

The Panthers will return to action on May 9, when they head to Sigourney high school for the 2024 State Qualifying Meet.
