SIGOURNEY – Sigourney Police Chief Kris Metcalf resigned on May 15, citing issues with how the State of Iowa handles retirement as his reasoning. According to Sigourney Mayor Jimmy Morlan, changes to definitions for the Iowa Public Employees’ Retirement System, a pension plan for government employees in Iowa, made it unfeasible for Metcalf to stay on as a police chief. Metcalf, who was hired in October of last year, will continue working until the end of June. Morlan stated that Metcalf would attempt to use his police contacts to find a replacement.
