AMES—On May 20, the Keota Eagles boys golf team, and Eli Marsh of English Valleys as an individual, made the trip to Ames Golf and Country Club for the 2024 Class 1A State Tournament.

The Eagles tied for sixth place as a team with a final team score of 334. Junior Billie Kindred led the way with an 82 that included eight pars on the day. Senior Cole Kindred tallied 10 pars for his score of 83.

Freshman Brenna McGuire did not shy away from the moment, as he shot an 84 on the day with seven pars.

When asked about the confidence he built throughout the season to get to this point, McGuire responded with, “These guys are all great golfers. Being a freshman, you can look up to them.”

Lastly for the team score, senior Sawyer Stout finished his day with an 85 that included seven pars.

Senior Tanner Waterhouse shot a 88, while fellow senior Connor Strand wrapped up his day with a 93.

Before the meet, the Kindred brother spoke on being able to make the state meet. Cole Kindred described it with, “Feels really good because we haven’t made it the past three years, to just finally be able to go up to Ames feels really good.”

Billie Kindred shared a similar sentiment with, “We’ve been really close the past couple years, missing by a couple strokes. We have been knocking on the door in every sport we play, so finally making it to state feels nice.”

English Valleys Eli Marsh made the trip up to Ames as an individual, and ended his day with an 84 to tie for 32nd place.

The highlight of Marsh’s round came on hole 7, when he secured a birdie.

The back nine was not kind to Marsh, as he tallied three double bougies to go from five over to 13 over.
