SK’s Jake Moore Will Head to the UNI Dome for the Shrine Bowl

SIGOURNEY—Four years of SK football may have come to an end for many of the seniors this past fall, but Jake Moore will get to put on the Cobra helmet one more time when he heads to Cedar Falls on July 15 for the Shrine Bowl. Moore will participate in a practice on July 16, and the game will be played on July 22.

On the website the Shrine Bowl describes their event as, “A tradition since 1972, the Iowa Shrine Bowl is an all-star football game recognizing senior athletes and coaches across the State of Iowa.”

When asked about what he hopes to accomplish out there, Moore responded with, “I just want to go out and have fun all week. It’s a great time. Obviously, it is a football game, so you have to have that football mentality, but it’s really more than a game. It’s for the Shriners, so I’m just looking to go out there, have some fun and make some tackles.”

“Feels good. Feels good to still wear the Cobra on my helmet. I think it will be a good experience,” described Moore on being able to represent Sigourney-Keota football at the UNI-Dome for the Shrine Bowl.

Jake Moore’s SK career goes all the way back to his freshman year. He may not have played a pivotal role in the District Championship, but he saw what it takes to win. Moore would watch his team fall to a Cooper Dejean led OABCIG team in the UNI Dome.

In his sophomore year, Moore scored his first touchdown as a Cobra against the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks. He finished the game with two carries for 17 yards and a rushing touchdown. This would be Moore’s sole touchdown on the season. 

His junior season was the year he fully stepped onto the scene. The Cobras were fresh off their second straight District Championship, and had just lost a good core of seniors. Moore became a defensive cornerstone for the Cobras, as he secured the third most total tackles on defense with 38. Moore was named the District 6 First Team Defense and the Class 1A All-State Defense. On top of the 38 total tackles, Moore added 5.5 tackles for loss and three interceptions, one of which was taken to the house. On top of the individual awards, the Cobras went on to win their third straight District Championship.

Heading into his senior season, the Cobras had their minds set on that fourth straight title. Moore played a pivotal role in that run, as his 41 total tackles was second to only Aiden McGuire. He added 23 solo tackles, five tackles for loss, two interceptions and a fumble recovery. He was named the First Team for All-District 6, and was selected as a defensive utility player for the Class 1A All-State Team.

Moore also added a little bit of an offensive spark. He threw only one pass on the season, but it was a three yard touchdown pass. On the ground, he scored two touchdowns with 83 yards on 18 carries.

Moore spoke on the feeling of accomplishment that came from his time with the Cobras as, “It feels pretty good. I obviously put my time in, and hard work pays off.”

Lastly, Moore spoke on his goal for the game with, “Just make a couple tackles. That’s the goal.”

The Shrine Bowl game will be held on July 22 at the UNI Dome, and Jake Moore will play for the South Team. Before the game, there will be a parade held in Main Street, Cedar Falls. Following parade participants gather at River Place Plaza for autographs and pep rally.
