Panther Softball Pounces Past Winfield-Mt Union
PACKWOOD—On June 18, the Pekin Panthers hosted the Winfield-Mt Union Wolves for an SEISC matchup. The Panthers pounced the Wolves by a final score of 6-4.
The Panthers responded to a Wolves run in the top of the first with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. They added two more in the third inning to push the lead to 6-1. The Wolves scored a run in the fifth, and two more in the seventh, but it was not enough to mount a comeback.
The Panther may have only tallied five total hits, but they made the most of the mistakes from the Wolves. The first inning was a perfect example with batters getting on base, drawing walks and being aggressive on the base path when the opportunity presented itself.
Freshman Mikayla Scuttlefield tallied the lone RBI for the Panthers.
Freshman Addison Smith pitched seven innings with four earned runs on six hits, two walks and eight strikeouts.
The Panthers secured their second victory of the season, and pushed to 2-16 on the season. They will return to action on June 21, when they visit the Lone Tree Lions.
