Ernst Names Small Business of the Week, Barn Wired

The News-Review

SIGOURNEY– Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, today announced her Small Business of the Week: Barn Wired of Keokuk County. Throughout this Congress, Ranking Member Ernst plans to recognize a small business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties.

“In just a few years, Barn Wired evolved from a small home decor business to a multifunctional community hub where customers can shop, enjoy lunch, or find a good cup of coffee,” said Ranking Member Ernst. “When I visited Barn Wired in 2020, it was clear that Amanda understood the importance of investing in rural communities and is dedicated to making a difference in Keokuk County. I’m proud to recognize her and the entire team at Barn Wired for their hard work and creativity.”

Barn Wired was founded in 2015 and got its start at craft fairs and farmers markets as Amanda Snakenberg traveled throughout Iowa to sell her hand-designed barn board and barbed wire signs. In 2017, she expanded Barn Wired to include a decor shop, full coffee bar, home cooked lunches, and a beverage garden in its new brick-and-mortar storefront location on the square.

Amanda introduced initiatives like Ladies’ Night Around the Square and a community farmers market to showcase the town’s businesses. Next summer, Barn Wired will celebrate its 10th anniversary in Sigourney.
