Goodwin Guides Savages to Win with 19 Ks

SIGOURNEY—On June 1, the #6 ranked Sigourney Savages hosted the Seymour Warriors for a non-conference matchup. The Savages stormed past the Warriors by a final score of 5-0 with another stellar performance on the mound from senior Carly Goodwin.

Goodwin pitched all seven innings and only allowed two total hits. She faced 23 total batters, and struck out 19 of them. She held the Warriors to a team batting average of 0.087.

On the season, Goodwin sits in the top five of earned run average (2nd, 0.30), strikeouts (4th, 267), opponent batting average (3rd, 0.096), runs allowed (2nd, 11), earned runs allowed (2nd, 5) and walks and hits per inning, or WHIP (2nd, 0.41).

Goodwin also knocked in a run for the offense. Erin Dawson, Amiya Smallwood and Ella Bruns all also tallied an RBI on the night. 

The Savages push to 19-6 on the season, and will return to action on July 5, when they head to Ottumwa for matchups against the #10 ranked team in Class 5A Southeast Polk and Solon.
