Jerome ‘Jerry’ Flynn

KEOTA - Jerome “Jerry” Flynn, also known as Sleepy, 74, of Keota, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Jerry was born Jan. 19, 1950, in Washington, the son of John and Anna (Malley) Flynn and graduated from Keota High School in 1968. He married Nancy Jo Greiner Aug. 8, 1970 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington. A lifelong Keota resident, Jerry was a Pressman and resident comedian at McCleery Cumming Calendar Factory for 36 years until 2004.  He and Nancy also owned the Roost from 1981 until 1987 and Jerry was a substitute rural mail carrier for 11 years until his retirement.  He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, Lagos Acres Country Club and Keota Unlimited and was a former member of the Keota Jaycees and Knights of Columbus. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.

Survivors include his wife: Nancy Flynn, of Keota; two sons: Chris (Tonya) Flynn, of Birmingham, and Jamie (Brenda) Flynn, of Washington; five grandchildren: Cael Flynn, Kamden Nusbaum, Kadence Nusbaum Sean Flynn and Hailey Flynn; two sisters: Mary Long, of Mt. Vernon, and Margaret “Peg” (Dave) Levy, of Georgetown, Texas; a brother: William (Shelly) Flynn, of West Liberty, and brother-in-law: Larry Palmer, of Estero, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Sarah Palmer.

Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with the Rev. Robert Lathrop. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Mary’s Cemetery in Keota. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the church.

A memorial fund has been established for the Keota QRS, Keota Fire Department or the Keota Elementary Playground Fund.  Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Jerry and his family. Visit Holm Funeral Home.
