SIGOURNEY—The football season has finally returned, and the SK Cobras kicked things off against the #18 ranked in Class 2A PCM Mustangs in the Snake Pit. The Cobras were corralled by the Mustangs by a final score of 54-14.

The Mustangs offense was potent throughout the duration of the night. They scored on all of their possessions in the first half to total 34.

The lone SK touchdown came via an Isaac Bruns touchdown run, as he tiptoed his way down the left sideline for 17 yards. Bruns finished the night as the leading rusher for the Cobras with 84 on 20 carries. Fellow senior Brady Clark also tallied 10 carries for 53 yards.

The second half was more of the same for the PCM offense, as they continued to find pay dirt.

The Cobras backups came in later in the game, and junior Jacob Libe threw a 55 yard touchdown pass to sophomore Ayden Galindo.

On the defensive side of the ball, senior Chae Chalupa led the team with 4.5 total tackles, 4 solo tackles and a tackle for loss.

Coach Jared Jensen spoke on what he saw from his team with, “We saw a lot of good things. Our effort was to understand what we’re supposed to do. Our execution at times was mainly due to the physicality and size that PCM brought. We will learn a lot about ourselves from this game to be able to push forward and project that onto next week. Mediapolis will be good but I feel like us playing PCM is to our advantage.”

Coach Jensen also spoke on the game from junior quarterback Bradyn Wood with, “Brayden was a little bit nervous going in. He did some good things, just made a couple errant throws into danger that got picked. I talked to him on the sideline about what he probably should have done and then he was able to see that on film. All the mistakes we made as a whole are all correctable. We just have to make sure we coach the kids up to get them corrected.”

The Cobras fall to 0-1 on the season. They will look to notch their first win when they head to Mediapolis on September 6.
