SIGOURNEY – During the Sept. 4 meeting of the Sigourney City Council, Councilman Gary Iosbaker reported that the IEDA BOOST Grant for a proposed community center had been submitted. The city will learn if the grant has been approved on Oct. 1. Iosbaker asked if the council wanted to table discussion of a proposed Strategic Planning Committee until after finding out about the grant. Councilman Ed Conrad stated he was unsure if a separate committee containing half of the council was a good idea, instead suggesting that the city plan things at special meetings, to allow the entire council to give input and allow other people to be invited.

Councilman Adam Clark gave an update on the dilapidated house Washington Street discussed at the last meeting, revealing the Public Safety Committee had received a response from the owner, who is planning to remove the damaged house. He stated that the committee was working on new ordinances for people living in tents or vehicles, updates to vicious animal ordinances, and hiring police officers.

The meeting was livestreamed by Steve Shettler.
